Val Patterson knew he was dying, so he wrote his own obituary that would appear in Utah's Salt Lake Tribune after his death. Patterson knew his days were numbered after being diagnosed with throat cancer and took care of many of his funeral arrangements including writing his own obituary.

When the self penned obituary appeared in the newspaper, he had come clean about some deep, dark secrets.

Patterson admitted that he actually didn’t have a doctorate from the University of Utah, like everyone believed.  In fact, he never even graduated!  He even committed a crime in 1971.

Imagine how family, friends and loved ones, including his wife, felt when they read the obituary and found out he wasn't totally the man they thought he was.

Is this the act of a coward or  just a man who wanted to come clean in death?
