Chuck Berry once told an interviewer he checked his guitars when flying. He said they typically lasted about 6 months, then quipped, "tax deductible, you know!" Yennifer Correia wasn't willing to be that cavalier with her 17th century violin. Correia was boarding a United Airlines flight in Houston, when she was told she couldn't carry the instrument on. The classical musician inquired about other options, and was told there were none. The Independent reports, she was willing to pay extra, take another flight, or whatever necessary to protect her valuable instrument. Correia asked to speak to a supervisor. Things only got worse from there. The supervisor attempted to wrestle the instrument away, injuring the musician's hand. Her lawyer said, "Why can't these people be polite?" Ms. Correia booked a later flight on American Airlines, and carried her valuable instrument.
