The 14th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball stayed unbeaten in postseason play on Saturday, defeating the 18th-ranked LSU Tigers, in the second day of the Baton Rouge Regional at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La.

Louisiana defeated top-seeded LSU, 4-2, to advance to the regional championship round for the 10th-consecutive year, in a game that lasted approximately 8-and-a-half hours, actual time, due to two long weather delays.

The Cajuns will go into Championship Sunday as the only unbeaten team in the regional, after also downing the McNeese St. Cowgirls, 6-0, on Friday night, and need only one more win to advance to their 6th-straight Super Regional.

The win extended the Cajuns’ current win streak to 15 games, including 29 wins in their last 30 games, as well as 36 in their last 38.

The win improved Louisiana’s all-time record in the NCAA Tournament to 73-55, while extending their win streak at Tiger Park to 8 games, including their 6th-consecutive postseason win over LSU.

The Cajuns, who still trail the all-time series against LSU,13-9, is in an NCAA Regional for the 19th-consecutive year, and for the 27th time in the last 28 years.

LSU got on the scoreboard first, plating a run in the bottom half of the first inning, when Amanda Doyle doubled home Sahvanna Jacquish with two outs, to give them a quick 1-0 lead.

The Tigers added run in the bottom half of the third inning, when Bailey Landry delivered a clutch two-out, run-scoring double, to widen their lead to 2-0.

Louisiana took the lead in the top half of the 5th inning, scoring 4 runs, including the game-changing blow, a 3-run home run of the bat of DJ Sanders, her 29th of the season, to give them a 4-2 advantage.

That was all that Louisiana would need, as they held on for the exciting come-from-behind triumph.

Louisiana, who was outhit by LSU, 8-7, was led at the plate by Sanders, who went 2-for-3, to go along with a homer and 3 RBI's.

Alex Stewart (27-3) recorded the win for the Cajuns, her second in as many days, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits over 7 innings.

Allie Walljasper (16-5) suffered the loss for the Tigers, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, in 7 innings of work.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 47-6, overall, while LSU dropped to 42-17.

The Cajuns advance to the championship round, where they will either LSU, McNeese St., or Fairfield.
