Prom season is fast approaching. For many young girls, or their parents, the expense can be overwhelming. I was lucky, when my daughter was a senior in high school, she got a job & paid for her own dress.
The UL AmeriCorps' Cinderella Project is here to help those for whom the expense of a prom dress may be prohibitive. They're holding a one-day event in Lafayette. It's This Saturday, March 9th, from 9-4 at the Hilton Garden Inn Across from the Cajundome. The program is open to any high school junior or senior girl who wants to attend prom.

The Cinderella Project has been collecting and accepting donations since February. They've collected over1,300 dresses. About 200 girls have sought help so far . Adamson says social media has been very instrumental in the success of the project, Facebook in particular.
Area sponsors have provided assistance as well. Raising Cane's has been a sponsor for the Project in both Baton Rouge, and Lafayette.  Area businesses have donated accessories, shoes and jewelry. There's even alteration service.
