Climbing on to a sled that is smaller than my body and sliding down a track at over 75 miles an hour is not my idea of a good time. That and a huge lack of courage and skill are the reasons I don't compete in Olympic Luge competition.

Emily Sweeney does compete in luge competition and she is pretty good. On Tuesday during the finals of the Women's Luge at the PyeongChang games, Sweeney's mishap showed just how unforgiving this sport can be.

As you can see in the video Sweeney suffered a slight bobble on the most treacherous section of the track. This caused her luge to slide up and down the banking on a high-speed curve. She eventually lost control of the luge and made strong contact with the wall. Thank God for helmets and safety gear.

Sweeney appeared to be dazed in the moments following the crash. Afterwards, she was assisted to her feet and was able to walk off the track under her own power. She later went to a local hospital for x-rays and an examination.

Before leaving for the hospital Sweeney spoke with NBC Sports who carried the event live.

I'm very sore, and pretty stiff. I'm going to get an X-ray on my back after this, but I wanted to have the last word. So thanks for all the support, you guys. It's a bummer, for sure, and I know that I'm better than that. But here we are -- it happens.

Alex Ptachick who is a social editor for USA Today tweeted these trackside photos following the crash and the subsequent good news that Sweeney appeared to be none the worse for wear following the impact.
