Decades ago, Cuba was a vastly popular destination for American tourists. That changed when Fidel Castro came into power. American diplomats were expelled, the US Embassy closed, and many Americans barely escaped imprisonment, or worse. The Castro regime allied itself with the Soviet Union. Things nearly reached critical mass in November, 1962. President John F. Kennedy and Soviet premier Nikita Kruschev played a dangerous game of flinch over the placement of of missiles capable of striking the US mainland on the island. Kruschev ultimately relented.

The times, they are a changin'! US Secretary of State visited Havana on Friday, becoming the first high level US diplomat to visit Cuba in 70 years. KLFY reports the embassy, shuttered since 1961, appears virtually unchanged. Cigar aficionados are likely wondering when they'll be able to legally obtain Cuban cigars. President Kennedy signed a bill outlawing their importation in 1961, but not before stocking up.
