As part of an ongoing city bus fleet conversion, the Lafayette Transit System has incorporated two new compressed natural gas (CNG) buses this week.

On July 15, two CNG buses phased out all but on diesel-powered bus among the entire LTS fleet. The only other diesel buses that remain are a part of a fleet of spare buses.

The new buses can be seen on city bus Route 25, Johnston Street from Downtown to the Mall of Acadiana, and on Route 15, Congress Street from Downtown to Ambassador Caffery to Johnston Street and back.

“As we convert the fleet to CNG, we are more able to take advantage of lower fuel costs,” Public Works Director Kevin Blanchard said. “This helps make our transit system as efficient as possible.”
