Two Acadiana residents are under arrest after receiving 800 grams of MDMA in the mail from China.

Jermia Batiste, 23, and Tony Benoit, 21, retrieved the package from the Breaux Bridge post office on Oct. 7, well after U.S. customs officers intercepted the package and notified the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office of its impending arrival.

The St. Martin Parish Narcotics Unit and U.S. Homeland Security Agents were on site to arrest Batiste, of Lafayette, and Benoit, of Breaux Bridge, without incident.

The two are charged with possession with intent to distribute MDMA, a pure form of ecstasy often known as “molly.” Bond is set at $500,000 for each.

Maj. Ginny Higgins of the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office said its narcotics department “hasn’t gotten its hands on” information that will determine whether the arrest was in connection with last week’s Silk Road bust.

The FBI shut down the online black market last week, seizing more than $3.6 million in Bitcoins. The Silk Road fostered international drug trade since its 2011 launch by allowing users to anonymously buy and sell anything using the digital currency.
