Twinkies are back! The price hasn't gone up, but they're smaller.

The new boxes on store shelves list the cakes as having 270 calories and a weight of 77 grams for two cakes. that's 135 calories and 38.5 grams each.

Right before it went out of business, The predecessor company told The Associated Press Twinkies were 150 calories per cake. Past boxes indicated the weight was 42.5 grams per cake.

A Hostess spokesperson said, in a Monday e-mail, the size change was made in "mid-2012" by the predecessor company.

This was presumably done as part company's struggle to keep its head above water financially.
The longer shelf life of Twinkies was reportedly made by the predecessor company before it went bankrupt. The increase to a 45-day shelf life, up from 26 days went into effect Nov. 1st.

Retailers may request frozen Twinkies, so they can stamp their own expiration dates on them.
The private equity firms Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co. bought Twinkies and other snack cakes after  Hostess Brands announced it was closing down in November. The firms are known for reviving struggling brands.

Hostess says Twinkies will remain the price of $3.99 for a box of 10.
