An area of disturbed weather that has been lingering over the Eastern Caribbean Sea has finally become organized enough to earn the distinction of being a named tropical cyclone. The name Gabrielle was given to storm complex shortly before midnight Louisiana time last night.

With the waters of the tropical Atlantic very warm and conducive for strengthening what is the forecast for Gabrielle?

Most of the reliable tropical forecast models suggest that Gabrielle will not pose a threat to the United States coastline. The Hurricane Center's official forecast track suggest the storm will bring heavy rains to Puerto Rico and then pull northward and eventually northeastward out into open water.

The Hurricane Center is also watching two other areas of disturbed weather; one being near the Yucatan Peninsula and Bay of Campeche in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. This area of weather has been given a 20% chance of organizing into a tropical cyclone in the next two days. Meanwhile the other area of disturbed weather just to the northeast of Gabrielle's location is given only at 10% chance to strengthen.
