The tornado watch issued earlier today for northern Louisiana now extends to the Acadiana area as severe storms move southeast, according to our news partners at KATC. The watch will remain in affect for Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Evangeline, Iberia, Jeff Davis, Lafayette, Rapides, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, Vermilion, and Vernon parishes until 7:00 pm.

Here are the differences between tornado watches and warnings:

Tornado Watch - Tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. Be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued or you suspect a tornado is approaching.

Tornado Warning - A tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. Tornado warnings indicate imminent danger to life and property. Seek shelter immediately.
