This One Thing Will Save Your Holiday Meals [OPINION]

Sometimes, we come across pearls of wisdom in the most unexpected of places. Years ago, I was reading Superman #162 and found a solution to a problem we all face during the holidays.

Clark Kent is visiting his mom and dad in Smallville when the topic of the presidential election comes up. Tensions rise, and Pa Kent gives Clark a piece of advice that I think everyone should make a rule at their holiday dinner tables:

Take it from your old man, Clark. There are three things you never discuss at the dining table: religion, politics, and old girlfriends.

That pearl of wisdom has stayed with me for years, and I've used it to try and keep dinner with family and friends pleasant and joyful. There are much more important things to discuss during holiday meals, like catching up with relatives and friends, beloved memories of holidays past, and of course, the food! Take a break from talking about the election and all the ugliness and craziness that's come with it, and make the most of that precious holiday time with those you love.
