Have you seen those big ole mosquito-looking bugs at your house? Of course you have, you live in south Louisiana.

You probably call them mosquito hawks, right?

Well if you do, you'd be wrong. I know, I'm as shocked about this revelation as you are!

They are actually called crane flies. And contrary to popular belief, they do not eat mosquitoes.

The front door, we're shutting it.

While prolific in our area, they don't harm anything. The actually feed on plant juices and don't live very long.

Crane flies only live for a week or two and mate most of the time. They hatch from eggs, mate and then die. They also don't bite.

The more you know.
