The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana 30 Years 30 Men 30 Days Campaign launches with a kickoff event at Genterie Supply Co. in Downtown Lafayette.  Those attending will enjoy free beer and wine, music, and free access to the services of C. Wolf the Barber. The
kickoff event will be open to the public.

The 30 Years 30 Men 30 Days Campaign campaign will run through the month of June and is a call to action for men in Acadiana to 'step forward and guide young boys in positive and meaningful ways' using BBBS mentoring programs as a 'direct way to make a difference in the life of a child and forever change his future for the better', according to Betty Blair, executive director of BBBS.

BBBS is experiencing a critical need for men to volunteer throughout Acadiana. The waiting list for mentors is over 75% boys, yet only two out of every ten volunteers is male. The average wait time for a boy to be matched with a mentor is in excess of 365 days.

The agency hopes that the campaign will encourage at the very least, 30  new Big Brothers. Boys served by BBBS are normal, good kids who just happen to find themselves facing adversity.

They typically they come from single parent, low income, multi-child homes. Big Brothers are adults who take an interest in the child’s life, spend critical one-to-one time having fun with them, and create a real friendship. The requirements to become a Big Brother are simple.
