It's Mardi Gras! I'm pretty sure folks all over Louisiana will be doing "a little" drinking over the next few days, before the abstinence of the Lenten season.

Depending on your plans, you may be "power drinking" & looking to get tanked,or  you may want to pace yourself because you have a lot of activities planned.
In either case, here's some information you may find useful. if you're a cocktail drinker, your choice of mixers makes a difference in how "buzzed" you get.

New research indicates that mixing your booze with "diet" soft drinks get you drunker faster.
A new study titled 'Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research' indicates mixing alcohol with diet soda causes faster and more thorough absorbtion of alcohol than using sugar-sweetened sodas. Experts explain that the body metabolizes sugary, non-diet sodas as food and reacts by digesting the calories.  This slows the absorption of the alcohol. This effect is similar to that of eating while you imbibe. With calorie-free diet sodas, the alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream more quickly, causing a quicker, and more powerful buzz.

I'm the captain of Townsquare Media's Mardi - Gras float. Every year, I advise first -time riders to eat a substantial breakfast on Fat Tuesday. I make the same recommendation to guests who join me for Jazzfest.
