When you're a kid, being diagnosed with an illness a name that contains words like "fibrosis," "Palsy," or "Blastoma" can be terrifying. Add the prospect of long hospital stays to that mix & a child can feel like they're being sent to a dungeon. A California teenager is making it all a little less scary. Seventeen year old Claire Wineland has Cystic Fibrosis. She's had nearly 40 surgeries, and spent more than a little time in hospitals. She decided to send a message of hope, and levity to young people facing major health struggles. Claire has made a Youtube video about the upside of being in the hospital, Junkfood, wi-fi, cable, dressing carelessly, and "room service." She also founded "Claire's Place Foundation" to be a resource for other young people affected by the illness. Speaking as a parent, teenagers can drive you crazy, just by being teenagers.
