Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback declared a state of emergency in the wake of a giant tornado, which hit Wichita particularly hard late Saturday night. Miraculously there are no major injuries reported so far.
I got word today from the Cajun Area Agency on Aging that they are getting requests from local homebound and elderly residents who are in need of heaters. Many older folks don't want to run their whole house heater due to the cost of utilities. Some don't have one that works. Others don't have one at all.

Rayne residents affected by recent tornados here are invited to attend a Community Information meeting hosted by the Rayne Tornado Long Term Recovery Coalition. Service providers will be on-hand to answer questions, provide information on available assistance, and help residents plan for recovery efforts. The meeting is set for Tuesday, May 3 at the Rayne Civic Center Auditorium.
