According to www.whitehousedossier.com, President Obama did not schedule even a brief event to commemorate the 68th Anniversary of D-Day.

The park, maintained through cooperation between the Lafayette Consolidated Government and the Vietnam Veterans of American (VVA), Acadiana Chapter (Hill 141), has served as the setting for many events, including Memorial Day ceremonies, Veterans' Day ceremonies, remembrance services, birthday parties, anniversary parties, and group get-togethers.

The LA Military Hall of Fame & Museum will be holding its First ever Skeet Shooting Fundraiser on  June 2, 2012 at G.O.L. Shooting Range.

A new monument will be unveiled on Friday, Veteran's Day, 11/11/11, at 11:11am, at Veteran's Park on Feu Follet in Lafayette.

I think that it should be in the curricula of every high school in America:  A field trip to Washington, D. C.  Really.  I would recommend the sophomore year, maybe as part of an American History class or Civics class (do they even still call it that?)
