‘Jersey Shore’ doesn’t just rot brains — it drains tax coffers, too.

MTV’s hit reality show, which depicts the exploits of a group of raisin-tanned 20-somethings as they live and party along the New Jersey coastline, has just had $420,000 of its 2009 production costs covered by the state’s Economic Development Authority.

And who can blame them? Last week, I posted this story about Rutgers University hiring 'Snooki' to speak to a portion of the student body. Upset parents pointed out that 'Snooki' was paid almost $10,000 more than what parents pay for each student's tuition and housing (around $23,000 annually).

Okay, as you have probably noticed (if you have read my previous posts), I am not a huge consumer of television programs. I enjoy the REALity programs, like documentaries, History Channel programs, Discovery, some programming on LPB, but I am not a fan of the so-called 'reality shows'. If these shows, like 'Big Brother' and 'Jersey Shore' are real, then America is in much more dire a circumstance than I realize.
