The Hollywood rounds of ‘American Idol‘ have begun, and a whopping 68 contestants were sent home on the first day. The judges sifted through tons of talent, dashing dreams, breaking hearts and catering to possible future stars. It’s a hard shill being an ‘Idol’ judge, especially when you watch contestant Symone Black fall off the stage right in front of your face.
A cliffhanger on a reality talent show? Is that even possible? Oh yeah. Since the ‘American Idol‘ Hollywood rounds are taped and not live, the show’s producers have the ability to edit as they see fit, so tonight’s episode ended with singer Symone Zaire Black, 16, falling off the stage and obviously hurt in the tumble.
We have to question the decision to leave the viewers in such a concerned state over Symone’s fate. A fall such as hers is serious stuff and we’re a bit unsettled at having witnessed it and not knowing how she is doing.
Gentlemen, start your engines.
Adam Lambert has some big shoes to fill! The ‘Better Than I Know Myself‘ singer will be touring with legendary rock outfit Queen this summer.
Portland is a pop culture hot bed. From the hilarious series ‘Portlandia’ — which celebrates the indie-dom and coolness of the region and is as far removed from ‘American Idol‘ and its pop sensibilities — to the hipster-friendly nature of the often cloudy and rainy area, Portland is on our radar a bunch. No wonder ‘American Idol’ producers hit the city again this season for the audition phase.
Jessica Phillips of Brooklyn, N.Y. has been through a lot in her short life. Her boyfriend, Angelo, of five years suffered a massive stroke and had to be hospitalized for a month and a half. When he finally came to, Phillips said he didn’t know who she was.
Kelly Clarkson has admitted that she’s perpetually single, but that’s not enough for some people. Apparently if you’re successful and cute but don’t have a boyfriend, you’re a lesbian.
What’s more American than ‘American Idol?’ How about the president, the leader of the free world? ‘Idol’ producer Nigel Lythgoe is actually asking our commander-in-chief if he wants to come on the show during the live episodes to perform Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together.’ Obama performed an impromptu version of the song at a fundraiser at the Apollo Theater, causing Green’s music to spike in sales. Perhaps Lythgoe thinks that a cameo by the President will boost the show’s relatively sagging ratings?
Legendary rock singer, vocalist for the Boston-based band, Aerosmith and American Idol judge , Steven Tyler performed the National Anthem at Sunday's AFC Championship game at Gillette Stadium.
Jim Carrey’s daughter Jane tried out for ‘American Idol‘ at the San Diego round of auditions. She certainly looks like dear old dad. It’s a bold move for the daughter of a celebrity to try out for the show, but it’s also honest, since the 24-year-old isn’t relying on her dad’s name to get ahead. For that, we certainly applaud Jane Carrey.
