Jennings police have made an arrest in the shooting of Sergeant Ricky Benoit. He was one of two officers responding to a domestic disturbance Monday morning. The officers spoke with a woman upon their arrival. She stated a man was hiding in another part of the house. There was no response to the officers' commands for the indiviual to show himself. Sergeant Benoit was shot in the neck while searching the home. George D Lowdins, 30, of Jennings was taken into custody after reportedly trying to flee the dwelling. Sgt. James Anderson of La. State Police informed KTDY Benoit was airlifted to a Lafayette hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition. Lowdins is incarcerated in the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail. He faces multiple charges, including attempted First Degree Murder of a Police Officer.
