The Lafayette Parish School System has announced the appointments of principals at four of the district's schools.

A LPSS spokesperson reported Donald Aguillard, Ph.D., appointed educators to the following positions.

 

 

  • Cheri Fontenot has been appointed as principal of Green T. Lindon Elementary.
  • Mary Qualey has been appointed principal of Carencro High.
  • Mary Yvonne Zeno has been appointed principal of Comeaux High.
  • Catherine Cassidy has been appointed the principal of Southside High.

Fontenot, 2016 Louisiana Elementary Principal of the Year, earned a Bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from UL Lafayette and a Master's in educational leadership from the American College of Education. Among several other education positions, she is currently the principal of James Stephens Montessori School in Ville Platte, where she taught for four years.

Qualey, the recipient of the Joseph B. Whitehead Educator of Distinction Award, has previously served as assistant principal and acting principal at Carencro HIgh School. She earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts degree from UL Lafayette. She also earned an administrative license from Gardner-Webb University.

Zeno, who was named the state's 1996 Girl's Basketball Coach of the Year, has served as multi-sports coach and teacher at Northside High School. She earned a Bachelor of arts degree from Southwestern Louisiana University and a Master's in Educational Leadership from Northwestern State University. Zeno has served as assistant principal at Lafayette High and acting principal at Northside High.

Cassidy, a Physical Education Teacher of the Year and 3-5A Girls' Basketball Coach Of the Year, earned a Bachelor's of science and Master of Education degrees from UL Lafayette. For the past 16 years, she has served at Acadiana High School as assistant principal, head girl's basketball coach and P.E. teacher.

Qualey, Zeno and Cassidy report for work on July 7. Fontenot reports to work on July 22.
