At this time 5 years ago, Darren Sharper was a hero with Saints fans across Louisiana. The Black & Gold signed the all pro safety in 2009 to bolster a defense that was previously near the bottom of the NFL in takeaways. Sharper's 9 interceptions were a significant factor in the Saints winning a franchise record 13 games and going on to a Super Bowl Championship. Now, he's headed to prison. Sharper has been charged in 4 separate jurisdictions with raping women after drugging them with Ambien, Xanax, and Valium. He has entered into a plea deal that will see him receive multiple prison sentences. They'll be served concurrently. AP reports, Sharper returns to New Orleans this week to finalize his plea deal pursuant to the Louisiana charges. Sharper is a 5 time Pro Bowl selection, 2 time All Pro, and 2 time Super Bowl champion, who may have previously had a shot at the Pro Football Hall of fame.
