The Centers for Diesease Control and Prevention has reported that more than 70  have been sickened and 13 people are now dead as a result of eating listeria tainted cantaloupe. They have traced the affected melons to Jensen Farms in Colorado, under the brand name Rocky Ford. Symptoms of listeria poisoning include diarrhea, fever and muscle aches and primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and newborns.

The recalled cantaloupes were distributed to the following states: IL, WY, TN, UT, TX, CO, MN, KS, NM, NC, MO, NE, OK, AZ, NJ, NY, PA. Further distribution is possible.
