There's another scam going around, and St. Landry Parish authorities don't want you to get suckered into it.

Spokesperson with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office Captain Megan Vizena says residents are getting emails, letter and other forms of communication from fraudulent companies offering money or the chance to win money in exchange for an upfront payment. Captain Vizena says you should never send money to receive money. Unfortunately, she says a number of people have fallen victim to these scams.

“Con artists often insist that people wire money, especially overseas, because it’s nearly impossible to reverse the transaction or trace the money," says Vizena. "Don’t wire money to strangers, to sellers who insist on wire transfers for payment, or to anyone who claims to be a relative or friend in an emergency. If it sounds suspicious or too good to be true, call us and let us investigate it first.”
