Red Gas Cans May Be in Short Supply for Hurricane Season

Did you know that Americans purchase more than 15 million portable fuel cans each year? In years when hurricanes make landfall, sales run about 30 percent higher. The familiar red gas cans that are part of most storm preparation and recovery kits could soon be in critically short supply. The Portable Fuel Container Manufacturers Association is alerting emergency management officials to supply chain issues that threaten their ability to meet consumer demand in the event of an active hurricane season.

Hibiscus Show Pays Tribute to Acadiana Military

Whether you have a green thumb or not, the Acadiana Chapter of the American Hibiscus Society invites everyone to their annual show and sale on May 20, 2012 at the Cathedral Carmel School Gym. They also encourage all military personnel (active or inactive) to come to the show with their military ID and receive a free plant as a way to say thank you for their service.

Gator by the Bay Festival in San Diego Promotes Louisiana and Zydeco

While we were recovering from Festival International and JazzFest here at home, folks in California were celebrating our culture on Harbor Island in San Diego Bay. The Louisiana Office of Tourism sponsored 'Gator by the Bay' which featured music and food from the Bayou State and Lafayette - they even gave away a trip to Louisiana! Bands included and Grammy Award winning Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band, KeithFrank and the Soileau Zydeco Band, and Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys.
