Shopping Mall Food – Deb’s Old Favorites
There's nothing quite like the aromas wafting through any American shopping mall – waffle fries, cinnamon buns, pepperoni, sweet and sour sauce. The other day we started reminiscing about the places that are gone, but will always be remembered. Here are a few of my all-time favorites…
Cold and frothy since 1926. You can make something close to the original at home but nothing else is quite the same. I hear you can get one in Marrero, but 120 miles is a long way to go for a smoothie, no matter how special.
They had the concept of sampling perfected long before Sam's did. My favorite treat there was something called 'Nutzels.' Really.
I don't think the actual brand that we had here in the Mall of Acadiana is still around anywhere, but the corn dog on a stick will always be in our hearts, and in our cholesterol readings.
Sears Candy Counter
Snow caps, turtles and cashews. And you could buy just 25 cents worth. I think there's now a cashier stand where the candy counter was at the Sears here.
Remember when 'the Mall' had a movie theater? And Aladdin's Castle?
