Shoe Boxes for Seniors returns next month for year three.  KTDY collects shoe boxes filled with items useful to seniors in the Acadiana area.  With the help of the Cajun Area Agency On Aging , The Blake At Lafayette and The Bayou Church, aging citizens will get a special treat this holiday.  But we can't do it without your help.

Starting next month, KTDY will kickoff the annual Shoe Box for Seniors campaign.  It will conclude just before Christmas.  Here's how you can help.  Take an ordinary shoe box, some KTDY listeners buy the plastic ones, and load it up with items a senior citizen might enjoy.  This year, the Cajun Area Agency On Aging is asking that they not be wrapped, but do indicate if a box is gender specific.

After your shoe box is loaded up, simply drop it off to KTDY at 1749 Bertrand Dr. or The Blake At Lafayette located at 400 Polly Lane.  (The Bayou Church will ask their congregation to take them into church on certain Sundays.)

Here's a list of the BEST items to fill your shoe box:

  • Games  (Word puzzles, cards or other mind stimulating games.)
  • Lotions
  • Soaps
  • Socks with grips
  • Scarves
  • Coloring books with crayons
  • Wipes
  • Food  (Only limited amounts in air tight containers that are within the limits of the residents diet are allowed.)

The Cajun Area Agency On Aging serves 8 parishes in the Acadiana area, so the more shoe boxes, the better.  Thank you!
