Over-crowded classrooms at Lafayette High School has the Lafayette Parish School System searching for an alternative to packing in more students in the future

According to our news partner, KATC, the school board discussed moving one, or more, of the high school academies from Lafayette High to Northside High School.

The idea, suggested by District 4 School Board Member Tehmi Chaisson, could, in theory, resolve the issues of overcrowding at Lafayette High and fill vacant desks at Northside High.

Chaisson said Northside High, which is located in his district, is n desperate need of students. Moving just one academy could also boost academic performance, he said.

The agenda item on the move was pulled from action as school board members agreed the decision will be made a while in the future.

Currently, Lafayette High is home to the Academy of Health Careers and the Performing Arts Academy. Northside High hosts the school system's Engineering Academy, the Academy of Broadcasting and Journalism, and the Academy of Legal Studies.
