Scammers Threaten Arrest In Exchange For Cash

There's a scam happening here in Lafayette Parish that you need to be aware of.

According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, there are scammers who are identifying themselves as being with their office that are randomly calling elderly residents and indicating that the person missed a court date and a warrant is being issued for their arrest. Spokesman Captain Kip Judice says the caller then tries to get money in exchange for the warrant being dismissed.

Captain Judice says their office will not solicit money over the phone. He warns you to not provide any personal information over the telephone unless you are certain that the caller is a reputable collector.
