sandbags

With some areas still cleaning up from last week's rain and flooding, we are expecting more water in the next couple of days again. Local governments have made sandbags available in Lafayette, New Iberia and the surrounding areas. Lafayette Consolidated Government reports that they will have one location open for sandbags today (3/20/12) from noon until. The location is at Brown Park which is at 1234 Pont Des Mouton.  It will be open as long as weather permits today, and you must bag the sand yourself although supplies like shovels and bags will be there at the site.

Filled sand bags are now available for pick-up at the Iberia Parish Public Works office located on Avery Island Road for residents in need. In addition, delivery of sand and unfilled bags is underway to fire stations in Grand Marais, BOM (Belle Place, Olivier, Morbihan), Jeanerette and Delcambre. Any resident living in those areas will be allowed to fill bags this afternoon in preparation for inclement weather predicted to be approaching today and Wednesday.
