This Saturday evening, the New Orleans Saints will be on the road to take on the Indianapolis Colts at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana, in their third preseason game of the 2014 season.

You can hear all the action on ESPN 1420, beginning with the pregame show at 5 o’clock, with kickoff set for 7 pm.

The Saints are a perfect 2-0 in the preseason, while the Colts are currently winless, at 0-2.

Prior to becoming the Indianapolis Colts in 1984, the Colts were located in Baltimore from 1953-1983, where they won NFL Championships in 1958, 1959, and 1968, and Super Bowl victory in 1970.

The Saints lead the all-time series against the Colts, 7-5, including 282-261 advantage in all-time points scored.

This week, in preparation for Saturday night’s game, we’ll look at some of the more memorable games between the two franchises.

Today, we go back to February 7, 2010, for Super Bowl XLIV, at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida, a 31-17 triumph by the Saints.

New Orleans went 13-3 in the regular season of 2009, and qualified for their first-ever Super Bowl appearance with playoff wins over the Arizona Cardinals (45-14) and the Minnesota Vikings (31-28).

Indianapolis went 14-2 in the regular season, then captured wins over the Baltimore Ravens (20-3) and the New York Jets (30-17), to advance to Super Bowl XLIV.

The Colts scored the first ten points of the game, getting a 38-yard field goal by Matt Stover at the 7:34 mark of the first quarter, followed by 19-yard touchdown pass from Peyton Manning to Pierre Garcon at the :42 mark, giving them a 10-0 lead at the end of the first period.

The Saints got two field from Garrett Hartley in the second quarter, one from 46 yards, and the other from 44 yards away, with just second remaining in the half, to trim the Indianapolis lead to 10-6 at halftime.

To begin the second half, in what many consider the turning point of the game, New Orleans successfully recovered a surprise onside kick on the second half kickoff, as Thomas Morstead bounced the kick off the hands of the Colts' Hank Baskett to set up the Saints' offense.

The Saints subsequently took the lead on Pierre Thomas' 16-yard touchdown reception, making it 13-10.

The Colts responded with Joseph Addai's 4-yard touchdown run, to regain the lead, 17-13, at the 8:45 mark, but the Saints then scored 18 unanswered points, including Tracy Porter's 74-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Hurried by the Saints' blitz, Manning fired a pass to the a slanting Reggie Wayne, but Porter broke first, picking the ball off and sprinting toward the goal line, before scoring, as the Saints' sideline, and their fans, went nuts.

It was a resounding 74-yard interception return with 3:12 left to seal the Saints' victory.

New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, who completed 32 of 39 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns, was named the Super Bowl MVP. His 32 completions tied a Super Bowl record set by Tom Brady in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

In the receiving department, Marques Colston and Devery Henderson each had seven catches, while Thomas led the way on the ground, compiling 30 yards on nine carries.

In a losing cause for the Colts, Manning finished 31-of-45 for 333 yards, along with one touchdown and one interception.

Indianapolis actually outgained New Orleans, in terms of total offense, 432-332, including a 333-281 advantage through the air, as well as a 99-51 edge on the ground, but the Saints made the critical plays at the critical times to come away with the win.

For the Saints, it was their first, and only Super Bowl victory for a franchise that began play in 1967.
