Saints Owner Tom Benson Kicks Granddaughter Out

We've heard very little out of Saints headquarters since the end of the team's disappointing 7-9 season. Fans have complained on social media about the apparent lack of activity. I took it to be a sign that a lot was going on behind the scenes. That's clearly been the case.

Nola.com reports, Saints owner Tom Benson has ousted granddaughter Rita Benson Leblanc from her position as Vice President/Owner of both the Saints and Pelicans. It was widely reported during the disastrous 2005 season that he intended to move the Saints to San Antonio, and turn control of the franchise over to Rita. She assumed an active role in operating the franchise. Things have clearly changed.

Benson married his current wife, Gayle in 2004. Rita's office is empty, and she no longer has a company car or cellphone. A new succession plan has been announced, naming Gayle as sole trustee. When I read this story, it somehow didn't come as a shock.
