New Orleans Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis has been a staple in team's secondary the last two seasons, elevating his game around a defense that struggled. Lewis could be counted on, and as a result, established himself as a top line player on the Saints roster.

Lewis underwent hip surgery on Tuesday and will miss 4 to 6 weeks, as first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Lewis' cornerback counterpart Brandon Browner has missed the bulk of preseason after suffering an injury in the preseason opener at Baltimore, but returned to practice this week and is expected to start in the season opener a week from Sunday in Arizona.

Lewis' backup, New Orleans native and former CFL star Delvin Breaux also injured himself in the preseason opener, but returned last week and now slides into the starting role until Lewis' return.

New Orleans secondary is still without 2014 high priced free agent signee Jairus Byrd. The safety remains on the PUP (physical unable to perform) list, while 3rd round pick P.J. Williams was placed on injured reserve yesterday with a torn hamstring.
