Russia says its long range bombers will conduct regular patrol flights over the western Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico. Tensions between Russia and the west have escalated over the Ukraine, and they're flexing their muscles. AP reports, Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu said, "In the current situation we have to maintain military presence in the western Atlantic and eastern Pacific, as well as the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico." US military officials have downplayed it publicly, but Russian bombers reportedly practiced missiles strikes on the US from over the Sea of Canada in September, and Russian military aircraft were intercepted near the California coast earlier this year.
