Members of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office Patrol Division conducted a routine traffic stop Thursday, and after questioning 26-year-old Terry Trahan, they contacted the Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division to come out to the scene.

Narcotics agents seized 32 grams of synthetic marijuana along with Hydrocodone pills.  Detectives say Trahan had filled his prescription that day for the 150 pills, but he only had 39 left.

Trahan told investigators that he traded some of the pills for the synthetic marijuana.

Trahan was charged with:

  • Possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Sheriff Couvillon Mike Couvillon says,

“The trend in synthetic marijuana use and distribution is disturbing. Once again we attribute this to the fact that most of the people using this drug are uneducated to what it actually is. The chemicals used to make this drug are very dangerous to the nervous system, and health of the brain. Basically what they are consuming are hallucinogenic chemicals. We are seeing more and more stories of people having psychotic episodes, going into comas, and even dying due to this drug. My office has, and will continue to take down as many people as possible, who continue to sell, or even using this drug. One life saved is worth all of the man hours we put into this profession.”
