Lafayette, La. (KPEL) – Investigators have identified the body found at a small cemetery off of Highway 10 just outside of Mamou as that of Mickey Shunick. Her body was sent to the LSU Faces Lab after her remains were discovered Tuesday night. The Faces Lab at LSU is one that specializes in identifying human remains.

Lafayette Police continue to say that credible information led them to the old public cemetery in Evangeline Parish. While they still will not confirm or deny that a deal was made with Brandon Scott Lavergne, records show that he was checked out of jail for several hours Tuesday.  Corporal Mouton would not say if that was connected to finding the body.

Corporal Paul Mouton with Lafayette Police says there will be no further comment on the Shunick investigation at this time. Police have been very tight-lipped about the investigation because, as Mouton says,  “this case still needs to go to trial and still has to go before a jury and it’s important that we maintain the integrity of the case.”
