A new report just out from Lafayette Consolidated Government shows that LCG has received over $6,000,000 through the SafeSpeed/SafeLight program. Uncollected fines from red light runners and speeders amounted to nearly $900,000. These figures are for the beginning of the program through December 2012. The statistics show that total crashes at SafeLight intersections are down 64%, right angle crashes are down 43% and rear end crashes are down 80%. The report from the office of Director of Traffic and Transportation, Tony Tramel, concludes that a "significant positive improvement in reducing traffic crashes related to driver behavior" contributes to the overall public safety and the citizens of Lafayette.
