On Wednesday, Rep. Regina Barrow (D-Baton Rouge) will be leading a rally at 1:30 p.m. on the State Capitol steps called "Protect Children, Not Guns."

Each year, hundreds of Children's Defense Fund Freedom Schools programs across the country participate in a National Day of Social Action coordinated by the CDF. This year the National Day of Social Action will take place on Wednesday. "I want to use this day of social action and civic engagement to teach our youth to engage in community service and to restore the importance of being an advocate for social justice," said Rep. Barrow. "Our youth are our greatest asset, we should always do all we can to protect them and this event is a step in the right direction."

CDF Freedom School scholars will march with signs of freedom from gun violence. Others will highlight national statistics and the last group will be presenting poems and personal accounts of gun violence and how it affects them. "This event will afford CDF Freedom School participants the opportunity to voice their thoughts and feelings concerning an issue that affects all Americans-gun violence," says Rep. Barrow. "One child or teen dies or is injured from guns every 30 minutes in America today."
