You might be familiar with Port Barre because of its annual Cracklin’ Festival, held the weekend after Veteran’s Day every year or from the success of its high school sports team, the Port Barre Red Devils. Port Barre most recently made the news when the story of Port Barre Elementary principal Gabe Sonnier, who went from working as the school’s janitor to serving as its principal, made national news.
