Police Investigating Lafayette Bank Robbery, Shooting

LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- Lafayette Police say they are investigating the robbery of a Home Bank on Ambassador Caffery which followed some of the same patterns of other robberies in the last couple weeks.

Cpl. Paul Mouton with the Lafayette Police Department says a heavyset white male walked into the bank just after 3 p.m. Mouton says the suspect handed the teller a note indicating he was armed and demanding cash.

After being given an undisclosed amount of cash, Mouton says the suspect fled the area by unknown means. Shortly after, police in the area spotted a Ford F-250 matching the description of the truck used in the earlier robberies.

Mouton says officers followed the truck to Pinhook Rd. and Verot School Rd. and then attempted a traffic stop. The driver fled, and police pursued, Mouton says.

When they got to Queens Row, there was some type of officer-involved shooting, but Mouton would not clarify. He says state police have taken over the investigation, a standard procedure after shootings involving police.
