Police Re-Arrest Man In Acadiana Burglary Ring

Update: Jack Leblanc has been re-arrested in the case and charged with 21 counts of conspiracy to commit burglary of inhabited dwellings, 103 counts of possession of firearms by a convicted felon, 58 counts of illegal possession of stolen firearms and 1 count of illegal possession of stolen things valued at $7,020.00.

Leblanc was initially charged with the stolen gun that was tracked to an Acadia Parish burglary (home that was robbed on August 21, 2013) that yielded a large amount of stolen property being seized.

Leblanc’s bond has been set at $2,000,000.00. He could face additional charges in three other parishes, including Acadia, St. Martin and Vermilion Parishes. (Since the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office joined the investigation, authorities say several items that were seized have been returned to home owners in the parish as well as the other parishes involved.)

It was a tip from a witness in Acadia Parish that helped local law enforcement crack a string of burglary cases in Acadiana.

Multiple homes in Acadia, Lafayette and Vermilion parishes were burglarized over a six week period according to Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Captain Kip Judice.

Officers were able to recover 70 guns along with jewelry and electronics.

Three people have been arrested in the case:

  • Damien Schexnayder of Rayne
  • Jerome Thibodeaux of Maurice
  • Jack Leblanc of Scott

Vermilion Parish Sheriff Michael Couvillon said his agency investigated about 20 burglaries over the past two months.
