There are multiple discussions that will happen in the next several weeks as the Lafayette City Parish President Joey Durel presented his 2013-2014 budget to the council.  One issue is his idea to give workers a pay raise.

A series of public meetings about the budget with happen in the coming weeks. The pay raise, the first one in two years, is now in the hands of the Lafayette City Parish Council.

The council will be reviewing next year's proposed spending plan by hearing from each department individually.

The meetings, which are open to the public, will last through the end of August.

Durel's proposed budget is close to $600 million.  The pay raise would be across-the-board of 2.5 percent for the consolidated government's 2.265 employees.

Chief Financial Office Lorrie Toups says the cost of the pay raise would be $2.8 million a year.
