If it's been a while since you took your test to obtain a driver's license, there are some laws and regulations you may have forgotten. As a public service, here's a reminder regarding parking behavior, inspired by the Facebook page You Park Like an A-hole - Lafayette edition.

When you are in a parking lot and see solid yellow lines close together and your car does not fit between those yellow lines, it probably means you're not supposed to park there. The lines are there to inform you that you shouldn't park there as you could potentially be blocking the view of others navigating through the parking lot. Below is an overhead view of those yellow lines (and notice no one is parking in those sections).

Routinely, people will park in these places, even though they're not supposed to, because they happen to be the most convenient places to leave their vehicle. You can see a few examples below:
