LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Calcasieu Parish has voted to allow a worker camp more than 5 ½ times as big as the one originally approved, though area residents objected.

The American Press (http://bit.ly/1LGQSVL ) reports that police jurors voted Thursday to let Kingdom Logistics of Lake Charles SWLA build 2,844 rooms instead of 492.

Company representative Braylon Harris says the expansion is needed to meet demand from area industries.

The development, called Rosie's Place, was initially proposed for female workers. Harris says that's still the plan, but men might be housed there, depending on demand.

Several residents said the facility would increase traffic and crime.

Planning and zoning director Wes Crain says the revised plan must go before the zoning board.
