The reaction to a new opinion piece published by the Chicago Tribune has many in our area fuming as the anniversary of Katrina looms. The columnist, Kristen McQueary, wrote the piece that was originally titled "In Chicago, wishing for a Hurricane Katrina"

...with Aug. 29 fast approaching and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu making media rounds, including at the Tribune Editorial Board, I find myself wishing for a storm in Chicago — an unpredictable, haughty, devastating swirl of fury. A dramatic levee break. Geysers bursting through manhole covers. A sleeping city, forced onto the rooftops. She supported her stance that the storm, which ravaged the greater New Orleans area, ultimately led to social and economic improvements in the area.

The backlash has been swift, with people all over the region sounding off in disgust in social media. The opinion piece has since been re-titled "Chicago, New Orleans, and rebirth."
