Opelousas Man Arrested For Beating Wife With Dresser Drawer

An Opelousas man is now behind bars after severely beating his wife with a cord, punching her in the face, and striking her with a dresser drawer.

St. Landry Parish Crime Stoppers spokesperson Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux said a Facebook post about the crime led to the arrest of  59-year-old Richard Trahan.

Deputies responded to the victim's home on Aug. 25 to find her with multiple injuries from the violent encounter with her husband.

Deputies contacted Trahan by phone who refused to return to the house for questioning.  A warrant was then issued for aggravated battery domestic abuse for Trahan.  Several attempts were made to arrest Trahan whose last known address was in Abbeville but deputies were unable to locate Trahan.

On September 6th, 2016 at 1:38 pm, Crime Stoppers used their Facebook account to spotlight the case and requested help in locating the abuser. Deputies were able to locate Trahan using a tip provided and arrested him Wednesday afternoon.

Trahan was booked into the St. Landry Parish jail for aggravated battery involving domestic violence. No bond was set.

“Using their social media outlet, Crime Stoppers were able to reach over 26,500 people in one day which led to the arrest of the abuser," said Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. "We have a zero tolerance for domestic abuse and will arrest the predominate aggressor in every case."
