Further details have emerged about the early morning house fire in Carencro  that left one man dead.

Lafayette and Carencro Fire Departments responded to a house fire at 112 Collins Street in Carencro around 5:41 Sunday morning. Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the gutters and roof of the single family dwelling upon arrival.  The fire proceeded through the roof of the house shortly thereafter.

Firefighters forced their way into the home, finding a single male occupant in the bedroom during their initial search of the home. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner's office and was identified as 28-year old Shawn Harris. Harris lived at the residence with his father, James, who was not home at the time of the fire. No other injuries were reported. The cause of Shawn Harris' death remains under investigation.

Fire investigators report that the structure sustained heavy fire damage to the attic and roof area, while the interior of the home sustained moderate fire and smoke damage. There were no smoke detectors in the dwelling.
