Obama To Pitch US Exports At New Orleans Port

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is heading to the Gulf Coast to make the case that more exports equals more jobs.

Today, Obama will tour the Port of New Orleans, where he’ll speak about the need to boost exports and spend more on U.S. infrastructure projects like ports, roads and airports. The White House says infrastructure projects have near- and long-term economic benefits.

Obama in 2010 set a goal of doubling exports by 2015, but the U.S. isn’t on track to meet that goal.

Obama will be discussing the economy as unemployment numbers for October are released. Economists expect the figures to be disappointing because of last month’s 16-day government shutdown.

After his speech, Obama plans to fly to the Miami area for three Democratic fundraisers. He’ll stay overnight in Florida.
