NY Times Reporter: Tom Benson ‘Mentally Capable’

A reporter with the New York Times says time spent with New Orleans Saints & Pelicans owner Tom Benson convinced him the 87 year old patriarch is mentally sound. Ken Belson is a football writer for the Times.Belson told The Advocate he interviewed the Mr. Benson for a total of about two hours in a three day period. He said, “For a man (who’s) 87, I think he is mentally capable.I feel comfortable in saying, if his mind had really diminished, I would have been able to notice it.” Benson was ordered to undergo physical and psychological evaluations by a New Orleans court after his daughter and grand children filed motions challenging his decision to alter the succession plan for the Saints and Pelicans Franchises.
